If you’re new to K9NW you will sign up for the “Intro to Nose Work” course. It includes six classes, the first of which is held over video call, not in person. If you have gone through the Intro course, you can sign up for the next step “Odor Pairing” course. This one is typically two six-week blocks; in the first set we build the dog’s familiarity with just birch oil odor, and in the second set we add anise and clove oil odors. After that, for dogs who have already made good progress identifying all three odors, we have the Continuing Odor course. This one is ongoing, not tied to a particular cycle of dates, so Continuing can be paid for in a block or one class at a time. Because of the particular standards and approach of K9NW, even dogs who have done lots of other kinds of scent work should start with Intro or Pairing.
Classes are held on Fridays and Sundays. The exact hours may vary depending on how many students have signed up for each class. The next cycle starting in July 2026 is:
- Intro to Nose Work, Fridays at 11:00 AM, starting 7/17.
- Intro to Nose Work, Sundays at 11:00 AM, starting 7/19.
- Odor Pairing, Fridays at 1:00 PM, starting 7/17. (This class is full. Please only select this if you’re already in this class.)
- Odor Pairing, Sundays at 1:00 PM, starting 7/19.
- Continuing Odor, Sundays at 3:00 PM, starting 7/19 (and ongoing drop-ins).
Cost is $210 for one dog ($35 per class), or $360 for two dogs (an additional $25 per class). You can use the card payment system below. You can also pay by check, cash, Venmo, Apple Pay, or most other methods, in which case please submit the signup form without filling the card payment fields, and let me know how you prefer to pay. If you know you will not be able to attend on certain dates, I can send you an invoice for just the dates you plan to attend. For single class drop-ins, or in case paying for the whole six weeks at once is difficult, you can pay for one class at a time via the drop-down menu below.
The very first Intro class will be held over video conference, with no dogs, so we can discuss how K9NW works, the philosophy and method, how the classes will run, setting expectations, and answering questions. All other classes will be held at 8880 SW Willow Ln, Portland (West Slope) 97225. We only have three parking spaces, so if a particular day and time for class has filled up, we can work out alternatives. Classes will mainly be held in a covered outdoor area, so dress appropriately for the weather, and wear shoes for wet and slippery conditions. We also have an indoor space.
